Ragi rotti / Taalipattu is a traditional recipe and a specialty of Karnataka. Taalipattu is prepared on a banana leaf. But if a banana leaf is not available you may use butter paper/plastic paper. Here, i have used banana leaf for the distinct aroma and taste it gives. It’s just yum.
INGREDIENTS
β₯ Ragi flour (1 bowl)
β₯ Carrot finely grated (1 medim size)
β₯ Onion finely chopped (1 small size)
β₯ Salt (as per your taste)
β₯ Jeera / Cumin / Jeera powder (1 teaspoon)
β₯ Curry leaves (finely crushed)
β₯ Red chili powder (a pinch for taste)
β₯ Banana leaf/butter paper
β₯ Ghee
METHOD
Put half teaspoon ghee in a frying pan and add cumin, crushed curry leaves, carrot, onion and saute until soft
Mix ragi powder and add the above mixture with lukewarm water to make a dough ball (i have used organic ragi powder here, hand pounded which is a little granular and coarse) Here i have used Organic Mandya ragi flour (hand pounded) You can buy their organic products through their portal.
If you use fine ragi flour, make sure you mix water little by little to get the right consistency
Apply one tablespoon ghee on banana leaf and roll out the dough ball on it. You can roll it by hand or by a rolling pin. Here, i have spread it by hand.
Heat the tawa on high flame, once itβs hot enough cook the rolled out dough on medium to high flame. Apply ghee on both sides.
My son loves it with curd, you can try it with what your baby loves. This will ensure the feeding is smooth π
Happy feeding!! π
